The family of an ex-British Army man found ‘murdered’ in a Wiltshire woods have paid tribute to him – as police launch a major investigation.
Graham Pennycook, 64, was found dead in woodland next to Perham Down polo field, close to Tidworth, on Thursday afternoon (24 September).
The former Royal Engineer served in the army for more than 32 years and has been remembered by his wife Jacky as a much-loved husband, brother, uncle and friend.

Wiltshire Police initially treated his death as unexplained, but detectives launched a murder investigation after information emerged from an initial post-mortem examination.
Officers were first called over a concern for welfare at around 3.41pm, before Mr Pennycook’s body was discovered approximately two hours later in woods near the polo field.
The scene is on military land near Swinton Barracks, where a significant police investigation has been taking place.
Paying tribute, Jacky said: “Graham was a husband, brother, uncle, friend and, as a Royal Engineer, a brother in arms for over 32 years.
“With his cheeky grin, no room was ever empty or quiet when Graham was in it. He enriched the lives of everyone he met.
“Solid and dependable, he was a pillar of strength, trusted by all and always on hand to help family and friends whenever needed.
“Kind and generous, but also principled, he would question the things he thought needed to be addressed in a conscientious manner.
“He had many loves and interests, but family and friends were always his priority.
“Renowned for the number of different cars he owned as well as a love of watches, and no day out was complete without an ice cream.
“He is missed by us all.
“Please respect our privacy at this time.”

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team are continuing to work to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr Pennycook’s death.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was around the polo field or surrounding woodland between 9am and 6pm on Thursday 24 September.
They are especially interested in anyone who was in the area between 10am and 11am and may have noticed something unusual.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker previously said officers were “working at pace” to establish exactly what happened.
