Detectives have launched an urgent investigation following a possible abduction attempt involving two 10-year-old children in Wiltshire.
The concerning incident happened in the St Peter’s Place area of Salisbury at approximately 7.30pm on Friday (25 September).
Wiltshire Police said a dark-coloured car, containing two men, reportedly approached the children along Wyvern Row. The force confirmed that neither child was injured.
The mother of one of the children said that her daughter and a friend – a boy – were playing outside when two men pulled up in what she believed was a dark or dull grey Volkswagen Polo or Golf.
The mother described the men as having “dark skin and dark features” and said they spoke with a “foreign accent” which the children could not understand.
According to her account, one of the men got out of the passenger side, opened a rear door and told the children “come come” while gesturing for them to get into the vehicle.
She also said her daughter saw a white blanket or sheet on the back seat.
The mother said the boy’s own mother then shouted from a bedroom after hearing a commotion, causing the vehicle to drive away.
She further claimed there was another possible abduction attempt involving children between 7.30pm and 8.30pm that evening, which she believed involved the same men.
Wiltshire Police has not confirmed those additional claims, including the descriptions of the men and vehicle, in its appeal.
Detective Inspector Eirin Martin, South CID, said: “We understand that this is a concerning incident for the local community, please be assured that officers are conducting multiple lines of enquiry.
“We will continue to maintain a high visibility policing presence in the local area.
“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact 999 quoting log 343 of yesterday’s date (25/09).
“I’d also encourage anyone who has been involved in a similar type of incident or is aware of one to report it to us via our website or by calling 101.
“If a crime is in progress, always call 999.”
