A prolific shoplifter has been jailed after police found her with stolen toys and clothing in Swindon town centre less than 24 hours ago.
Kelly Thirkettle, 46, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Friday).
The defendant, of Wharf Road, Wroughton, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and fraud by false representation.
Thirkettle was also wanted on a warrant for failing to comply with a previous community order. She was sentenced to 33 weeks in prison.
Police detained Thirkettle in Swindon town centre yesterday afternoon (Thursday 10 September) after she was reportedly seen acting suspiciously.
Officers searched her and found stolen toys and clothing.
PC Paul Bezzant said: “Officers detained Thirkettle in Swindon town centre yesterday afternoon (10/9) after she was seen acting suspiciously and a search was conducted.
“She was found in possession of stolen toys and clothing and had been using a family members details to purchase clothes online.
“She was remanded in custody and put before the courts today.
“Thirkettle is a prolific offender and I am pleased a custodial sentence has been handed to her.
“She has continued to show a total disregard for the law, for people and their property which is evidenced in her reoffending and failure to comply with a community order.”
