A Highworth mum has hit out at her councillor after a complaint about children playing on a bouncy castle outside her home sparked action.
Eliza Fields, who has lived in Home Farm for eleven years, described it as a close-knit community where neighbours look out for each other – regularly enjoying the outdoor space.
She holds a birthday party for her son Archie every summer, which includes a bouncy castle, paddling pools and food and drink for family, friends and local residents to enjoy.
Ms Fields says she keeps the communal area tidy and accessible, including for a neighbour who uses a mobility scooter.
The mum said she was contacted by Swindon Borough Council over a complaint about the bouncy castle and has seen local councillor Steve Weisinger taking photographs.

In words directed at the Tory politician, she said: “I’ll continue to make sure the area is clean, accessible and safe. I’ll continue to make sure the children respect other people using the space. And I’ll continue to welcome everyone — because that’s what a community is supposed to do.
“I’m proud to live in Home Farm. I’m proud of the community we have here. And I certainly won’t be made to feel guilty for children enjoying themselves in a public space.”
She added: “Hopefully next time, rather than taking photographs and going straight to the council, you might consider actually speaking to the person who lives here.”
Cllr Weisinger said he raised the issue with Swindon Borough Council after being contacted by another resident on the housing estate.
He said: “I was contacted by a resident due to the state of the area who lives on the same estate and reported the issue to Swindon Borough Council.
“The housing officer has spoken to me and the resident today.
“This isn’t just about a birthday party it’s about a resident making the area unsightly for other residents who live on the same complex”
A council housing officer subsequently contacted Ms Fields and asked for items to be removed from the communal area.
In a response to Cllr Weisinger, the officer said: “I have spoken with the household in question and have asked for the bouncy castle, paddling pools and chairs to be removed urgently.
“I have been advised these will be completed by tomorrow and I will be out to inspect the area by Friday.
“I have advised the issue being public liability and potential fly tipping, if this continues appropriate action will be taken.
“I have also asked the Neighbourhood Housing Wardens to update me if this continues as they are in the area most days for communal area checks so this can be dealt with promptly.”
Ms Fields maintains the area is kept clean and accessible, and says nobody had previously approached her with concerns.
