A man has died after a high-performance car smashed into a tree in Wiltshire.
Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the B4040 near Minety, seven miles east of Malmesbury, at around 7.05pm on Friday (7 August).
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was scrambled to the serious incident, which involved an Audi RS 3 at the junction for Trap Dog Lane, alongside many other 999 crews.
The driver of the car, a man in his 40s from Swindon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Audi – a man in his 50s – was taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “At approximately 7.05pm, an Audi Rs3 was travelling northeast along the B4040 from the direction of Charlton towards Minety when the vehicle left the carriageway and collided with a tree. No other vehicles were involved.
“The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 40s from Swindon, sadly died at the scene. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. A passenger in the Audi – a man in his 50s – was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The road was closed whilst collision investigators carried out enquiries at the scene.
