Police have searched a house and car in Swindon in connection with the attempted murder of a man with a screwdriver on a building site.
Specialist officers flooded a street in the Wichelstowe area throughout today (Friday) and efforts to recover evidence were ongoing as part of the major investigation.
It comes after a 25-year-old man sustained a life-threatening brain injury on being stabbed with a screwdriver at the Wain Homes housing development Widham Gardens, in Purton.
Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance airlifted the victim to hospital – as police searched for, and subsequently arrested, a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.
Shortly after the serious incident, officers cordoned off a residential address in the Wichelstowe area – guarding it overnight ahead of further investigative work.
Today, a specialist search team of seven and police dog Frank combed the house. Firearms officers were also called to attend, and were spotted taking equipment inside.
Officers also carried out a search of a car parked nearby, as did police dog Frank. Specialist police staff removed several bags of evidence, and have since left the scene.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the operation at the property is part of the ongoing attempted murder probe.
In a statement yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Deb Hatch said: “This is a serious incident which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.
“His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“I can confirm that we have arrested two people in connection with the incident and we are not currently looking for anybody else.
“I’d like to reassure the community that this is believed to be a targeted, isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.
“There will be an increased policing presence in the area in the coming hours and days.
“If you witnessed what happened and we haven’t spoken with you, or you have any concerns, please come forward and speak with one of our officers.”
