An investigation has been launched after a dog was allegedly abandoned in Salisbury on one of the hottest days of the year.
Wiltshire Council’s Public Protection Service said a female Akita was found tied to a lamppost in the Churchfields area today (Wednesday).
The dog was recovered safely and is now in the care of the council’s dog warden team.
Officials believe they are aware of the likely owner and are investigating whether the animal was intentionally abandoned.
In a statement, the Public Protection Service said: “We are aware who the likely owner of this dog is and the dog may have been intentionally abandoned this morning on one of the hottest days of the year having been tied to a lamp post, we are currently investigating the matter.”
The dog is microchipped, but the details registered on the chip are understood to be incorrect.
The council is appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the incident or has information that could assist the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dog Warden team by emailing [email protected]. The dog was logged under reference number 608638.
