A man and woman arrested after a life-changing hit-and-run in Swindon.

Detectives investigating the serious road traffic collision, which left a woman pedestrian fighting for her life in hospital, have made significant progress.

A silver Vauxhall Corsa is thought to have struck the victim in Rodbourne Road, near the Penzance Drive bus gate, at around 2.20am this morning (Tuesday).

The vehicle did not remain at the scene of the crash, and was later found in an alleyway off Crombey Street by a member of the public who reported their concerns to police.

Officers have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A 28-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of the same offences. Both suspects are in custody and are due to be questioned in due course.

The injured woman is currently in a stable condition in hospital, where she is being treated for life-changing injuries.

Roads Policing Inspector Neil Duffin said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Swindon Outlet Village, Rodbourne Road or Crombey Street between 2am and 2.30am, to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“You may have information which could help with this investigation into a serious collision which left a woman seriously injured.

“We also need to hear from anyone who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.”

If you can help, contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log 20 of 9 June. Alternatively, email [email protected]. You can also leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
