Police have made a ‘referral to social services’ after a baby was discovered unrestrained in a speeding car on the M4 in Wiltshire.
When a driver in a Vauxhall Astra undertook a police vehicle at 90mph near Swindon, officers had no choice but to pull the vehicle over.
After coming to a stop at the Badbury Weighbridge on Junction 15, they driver was found to be driving with no licence and no insurance.
But officers founds something even more concerning – an eight-month-old baby unrestrained in the back of the Vauxhall.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police’s Specialist Operations team said that the vehicle was seized and paperwork was issued for driving offences.
They also confirmed that a “multi agency” report was filed. It’s understood this will alert social services to the incident via the multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH).
The spokesperson labelled the driver’s actions ‘unthinkable and unacceptable’.
