999 crews are currently responding to a ‘seven vehicle’ crash on the A419.
Emergency services were called to the major route between Swindon and Cricklade shortly before 8am this morning (Thursday).
The incident is on the northbound carriageway near Seven Bridges/Castle Eaton.
It reportedly involves around seven vehicles, but the severity of the collision is unclear at this stage.
The road is likely to be closed by police or National Highways at the Blunsdon junction.
UPDATE 8.45PM: Lane one is open past the scene, with significant delays on the approach. Recovery work is ongoing and the road is likely to be clear by 10am.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Following a multiple vehicle collision, lane 2 of (2) is closed on the A419 northbound between the A4311 (#Swindon) and the B4040 (#Cricklade).
“TrafficOfficers and [Wiltshire Police] are working at the scene with recovery arranged and en route.”
UPDATE 9.08AM: Wiltshire Police say the road should be clear shortly.
A spokesperson said: “We are currently in attendance at a seven vehicle collision on the A419.
“The incident happened at approximately 7.45am on the northbound carriageway at Blunsdon.
“Closures are in place on the A419 however, these are due to be lifted shortly.”
