Adding: ‘I managed to get myself and two kids out but our cat is still fighting as she was in there a long time.

‘Thank you to the kebab shop for helping and keeping me and my daughter fed and safe while [firefighters] sorted it.

‘I never thought I’d be pulling a 2 year old and 4 month old from a burning building. Thanks everyone who supported us tonight.’

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Westlea and Swindon were called to Royal Wootton Bassett High Street at 5.56pm yesterday evening following reports of a property fire.

“The incident involved a fire within a kitchen of a first floor flat.

“Two breathing apparatus wearers used a hose reel and main jet to extinguish the fire.

“Our stop was in at 7.28pm and a fire investigation is underway.”
