Wiltshire 999s announced earlier this week, that major search and rescue training exercise which has been named Exercise Bulrush is to take place in Swindon this weekend.

A spokesperson for WILSAR said: “Many of us are putting on our red jackets, packing our kit, and running through our skills and procedures this morning as we prepare for Exercise Bulrush in Swindon.

“The largest missing person exercise in over a decade in our county is taking place today, planned and led by Wiltshire Search and Rescue in close partnership with the emergency services and other voluntary organisations.

“This vital, all-day exercise is designed to test every element of the command structure, communications, seamless working, planning and resilience. And we’ll be working on the ground, in water, with dogs all with one purpose – to successfully locate the missing person and return him/her to a place of safety.

“That’s what we do and we’re extremely proud of being Wiltshire Search and Rescue.”

The much-needed charity, WILSAR, are currently recruiting for volunteers. You can find out more by visiting their website here, which tells you more about the role.
