A ‘spooked’ dog who shut down the M4 near Chippenham is still missing.
Police closed the motorway in the vicinity of Leigh Delamere Services at around 4pm yesterday (Friday 13 February) following the incident.
A black and brown sausage dog named Mabel was reportedly spooked, running onto the live carriageway and sparking an urgent search.
The M4 was closed between junctions 17 and 18 for a short time while efforts were ongoing to locate the pet, reopening ahead of the rush-hour.
This afternoon (Saturday) she remains missing, with a sighting of her on the A350 north of Chippenham.
According to a motorist, she was “nearly hit by multiple cars” – with many people stopping in a bid to catch her.
But the advice is not to attempt to catch her as it could spook her further. Instead, people are asked to phone sightings into 07902065038 immediately.
