Man ‘six times drink-drive limit’ has been arrested after buying vodka at Lidl in Swindon.
Police were called to the supermarket in Barnfield Road at around 1.45pm today (Thursday) following concerns about a potentially intoxicated man.
A member of the public, who called 999, said that the man had been seen walking unsteadily before purchasing a bottle of vodka in Lidl.
He was then seen entering a car in the car park and turning the engine on. Officers raced to the car park, where the 34-year-old was found in a white Volvo.

He was breathalysed at the roadside and blew 215 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs and drink driving.
He has been taken to custody for an evidential breath test and questioning.
PC Tom Richardson from the Roads Policing Unit said: “215 is the highest number I have seen.
“Without this member of the public calling in, the consequences could easily have been fatal.
“I would like to thank her for recognising the danger and contacting us so swiftly – it could have saved lives.
“If you have any concerns about someone’s driving, please report it either on 101 or 999.”
