A blast at Chemring Countermeasures has sparks a huge emergency response.

999 crews raced to reports of what is believed to have been explosion at the military supplies factory in Netton, near Amesbury, at around 5.30pm on Thursday (11 December).

The site spans around 100 acres and hosts around 400 employees.

The firm describes itself as a “world leader in protecting air and naval forces from the threats posed by heat-seeking and radar-controlled missiles”.

Little about what actually took place at Chemring has been revealed – but Wiltshire Police did confirm that there were not reported injuries.

Wiltshire 999s understands that South Western Ambulance Service sent many resources including the Hazardous Area Response Team and a tactical advisor.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “Firefighters from Salisbury and Amesbury were called to Netton, near Salisbury at 5.30pm last night (11 December) for an incident.

“They worked with Wiltshire Police to manage this, and our stop was at 11.03pm.”

The service didn’t confirm what action was taken by firefighters at the scene.

Wiltshire Police said that officers “supported our colleagues at the fire service” following “an incident”.

Back in 2018, one person died and another was seriously injured in an explosion on the site.

A spokesman for Chemring Countermeasures said: “An incident occurred at our facility near Salisbury earlier this evening.

“All our safety systems operated as expected and there were no injuries to any of our personnel.

“The emergency services attended as a precautionary measure and have subsequently left the scene. We have launched a full investigation into the cause of the incident.”
