Wiltshire Police has responded after Harry Parker’s dad called out an officer who parked on the pavement near where his son was killed.
Adam Parker labelled the officer “above the law” after parking their marked police car in the pedestrian section of the path in Akers Way today (Tuesday).
It happened close to where Harry died; the 14-year-old was walking to school when he was struck by a driver in 2022 – who failed stop at the scene.
In a post on social media, he wrote: “This was the police car that was blocking half the cycle track/footpath right outside Nova Herod this morning.
“When I asked him why he parked there I was told it was an emergency. If that was the case why did he wait in the traffic and then very carefully park here? I was trying to cross the road.
“I suppose tho if you wear that uniform you are above the law and can do what you want. Considering he has parked by a car park blocking the view for driver trying to get out.”
However, Swindon police inspector Loz Copeland said that the officer was dealing with a “time-critical” situation.
They said: “This relates to a time-critical enquiry relating to a case taking place at court this morning.
“The officer involved was unable to find other parking at short notice and kept the time parked at the location to a minimum.”
