Wiltshire’s Special Constabulary gave more than 2,000 hours of volunteer support last month, providing a significant boost to frontline policing across the county.

Figures released by Wiltshire Police show volunteers contributed 2,728 hours in October.

The force values that support at £46,312, describing it as the equivalent of just over 17 full-time officers.

Seventy-one volunteers completed 354 duties. They carried out visible patrols in neighbourhoods, assisted with incidents and worked alongside regular officers to deter crime and reassure the public.

The force said the volunteers completed 173 hours of focused patrols across Wiltshire.

They also assisted with incidents on 568 occasions, giving police an extra presence on the streets and responding quickly when required.

Operational activity led to 25 arrests. Volunteers also issued 46 fixed penalty notices and traffic offence reports.

Specialist units, including roads policing and drone teams, also benefitted from volunteer support.

Wiltshire Police said the additional hours translate into more officers on the ground, faster responses and improved outcomes for communities.

The force is holding several awareness events for people interested in becoming a Special Constable.

These sessions cover the recruitment process, training requirements and include input from serving Special Constables.

An event will be held on Tuesday, 25 November at Calne Town Hall from 7pm to 9pm.

A second session takes place at Devizes HQ on Monday, 1 December between 7pm and 9pm.

An online event will be held on Monday, 15 December via Microsoft Teams from 7pm to 8pm.

Recruitment for new Special Constables is currently open. More information is available at www.orlo.uk/clickhere_SaD7O.
