An elderly woman was ‘struck by multiple vehicles’ in a fatal crash on Caen Hill – but only one stopped at the scene.

Wiltshire Police has this morning (Saturday) revealed more details about the serious road traffic collision on the A361 in Devizes on Friday (14 November).

Officers say a woman, aged in her 80s, was hit and killed ‘by a number of vehicles’ – around 150 metres west of the junction for Mayenne Place – at around 6.13pm.

However, only one of the vehicles stopped at the scene and work is now ongoing to identify others involved in the fatal incident.

“Other vehicles are thought to have been involved but haven’t stopped at the scene”, according to a force spokesperson.

They added: “It is possible that the drivers are unaware they have struck someone and officers are urgently appealing for them to come forward.”

Wiltshire Police confirmed that the woman’s next of kin has been informed.

Sergeant James Barrett, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman has lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family.

“We are urgently working to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

“While one vehicle stopped at the scene, it’s believed that other unknown vehicles may have been involved and we are really keen to speak with any drivers who were passing Caen Hill at that time, and thought they may have struck an object in the road.

He continued: “We are also keen to speak with any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage from that time.”
