Forensic probe ongoing after woman critically hurt in Swindon crash

Forensic investigation work is ongoing at the scene of a crash in Swindon in the early hours – which left a woman critically hurt.

Police are still trying to piece together the circumstances around the incident in Dorcan way, but believe the victim was struck by a car which failed to stop.

Officers are seeking dashcam footage from the the area between 4am and 6am this morning (Saturday), around the time of the road traffic collision.

People should also look out for, and report, any recently abandoned vehicles with impact damage. Anyone with relevant information is urged to come forward.

Forensic collision investigation work is ongoing at the crash site, close to Morrisons on Dorcan Way – with a cordons in place.

The woman – whose age has not been confirmed by authorities – remains in hospital, where she was taken in a life-threatening condition.

In a statement this morning, a police spokesperson said: “A woman is in a life threatening condition following a road traffic collision, in Swindon, in the early hours of this morning (08/11).

“The injured pedestrian is currently being treated in hospital – she is believed to have been struck by a car which did not remain at the scene.

“It is possible that the driver is unaware they have struck someone and officers are appealing for them to contact investigators as a matter of urgency.”

They added: “Dorcan Way in Swindon is currently closed in both directions from the Morrison’s roundabout to the Nythe Road junction while Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team attends the scene.

“Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and expect delays in the area.

“Officers are also appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone who may have dash cam footage taken from the area between 4am and 6am this morning to contact them as soon as possible.

“Witnesses to the collision, or anyone who may have relevant dash cam footage, are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597, quoting log number 46 of 8th November. Alternatively, you can contact the team directly by emailing [email protected].”
