A woman has been hospitalised after a serious crash on the A4 near Marlborough.

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance was among a significant number of 999 resources called to a three-vehicle collision in the Clatford area on Wednesday afternoon (10 September).

The incident involved two cars and a flatbed van, used for traffic management work. At the scene, a BMW i4 could be seen missing a wheel, and the van had left the carriageway.

Firefighters were forced to free one casualty – a woman – from a car, before she was flown to Southmead Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

There were concerns she may have sustained life-changing or life-threatening injuries, so the road was closed to preserve the scene for a forensic collision investigation.

However, the road reopened several hours later – when hospital medics confirmed that the casualty sustained serious but no lasting injuries in the smash.

In a statement today (Thursday), a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 3.10pm yesterday we responded to a three vehicle collision on the A4 at Fyfield.

“One of the drivers was taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-changing.”

An update from South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that “one double-crewed land ambulance, an air ambulance, a tactical commander and a rapid response vehicle” were sent to the scene.

As reported yesterday, a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “”We were called at 3:12pm today with reports of a road traffic collision on the A4 Bath Road, Clatford.

“Two fire appliances were mobilised, from Marlborough and Pewsey and on arrival found two cars and one flatbed lorry involved.

“Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release one person trapped in one of the cars and has been left in the care of the ambulance service.

“The stop came in at 4:49pm and the road is still closed in both directions.”
