A 999 call about coursing near Avebury sparked a police response today (Monday).

Local officers, traffic cops and a dog unit raced to a report of illegal hunting ongoing close to the World Heritage Site, in Avebury Trusloe.

It was claimed that a Honda CVR was being used as part of the activity – causing damage to land.

Rural crime team officers located the vehicle abandoned, with the suspects having left the area.

They are described as four white males, one older with a bold head and a young male. It’s not known how many dogs they had with them at the time.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “If you were in the Avebury Trusloe area this afternoon and witnessed any vehicles or individuals matching this description acting suspiciously, please call 101 quoting 54240112367.

“The team will continue to make enquiries to identify the individual(s) involved in the alleged incident.”
