Approximately 70 firefighters have been tasked with tackling a blaze in Urchfont.
Emergency services were called to reports of a fire involving a thatched cottage off Crookwood Lane at around 9.30am this morning (Thursday).
A total of 15 fire engines are in attendance, alongside other fire service resources including command units, a welfare van, senior officers and water bowsers.
Firefighters are working to tackle the flames and salvage property from the building, which is well alight.
The incident is likely to continue for the next 24 hours – as crews from across the county, and neighbouring counties, fight to fire.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The number of pumps attending the thatched property fire in Urchfont has increased to fifteen.
“Please avoid The Green if at all possible, as this is being used as a rendezvous point for our resources.”
Local residents are also being advised to close their windows and doors due to the significant smoke plume.
