An 18-year-old man has been charged with carrying out an arson attack on a McDonald’s.
Kieran Draper, of Maryland Close, Salisbury, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (4 January).
He faces a charge of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered – an offence which carries a sentence of up to ten years in custody.
Draper is accused of starting a fire in the toilets of McDonald’s in Winchester Street, Salisbury, on 1 June 2021.
At the time of the incident, he would have been 16 years of age.
Due to the law being indictable-only, no pleas were entered and the case was sent to Swindon Crown Court. Draper will next appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 3 February.
Shortly after the incident in June, detective Martyn Powell said: “As many are aware, this took considerable resources and generated a great deal of disruption not only to McDonald’s but to the wider area whilst the incident was brought under control.
“I am happy to say that nobody was injured as a result of this incident, however, this could have been a lot worse and as such is being treated seriously.
