A 17-year-old boy is the subject of a police investigation into the distribution of nitrous oxide after being found in possession of a large number of canisters.

PCSO Moore was on cycle patrol in West Swindon on Thursday evening when he came across a group of youths at Lydiard Park using the dangerous ‘laughing gas’.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said it is “illegal to supply nitrous oxide for human consumption under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016″.

Adding: “Nitrous oxide is known as ‘nos’ or ‘laughing gas’ this is a colourless gas, although not meant for human consumption it is sometimes inhaled by people that use this substance.

“The effects of inhaling nitrous oxide gas can cause many health issues including swelling of the brain, sadly people have died from inhaling nitrous oxide.”

Anyone aware of someone supplying nitrous oxide for human consumption should contact Wiltshire Police by calling 101 or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
