A Chippenham woman injured her parents in a second attack within ten months.

23-year-old Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Chivers pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating when she appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on 22 September.

Prosecutor Tom Power said the defendant, pushed her mother backwards during an argument at the family home on 24 March this year, causing her a head injury.

Chivers then forcefully threw a full can of beer at her father, hitting him in the shoulder.

The court heard that she’d previously attacked her family just ten months earlier. On 15 May 2021, she punched her mother in the arm and brother in the face.

Having been asked to move out of the family home in Greenway Gardens, she now resides with her boyfriend in Newhurst Park, Hilperton, Trowbridge.

Charlotte Frizzell, defending, said her client was living with her parents at the time of the incident – when her emotions have been heightened due to past drug misuse and mental health issues, including borderline personality disorder.

She said the defendant has struggled with a cocaine addiction for the past five years, but completed a drug rehabilitation programme last year. However, when she was evicted from the family home, she had to live in support accommodation with other drug users and started using again.

Ms Frizzell said she now has a stable partner, who she has been with since January this year and hopes to reconcile with her family in the future.

Magistrates imposed a 24-month community order with a drug rehabilitation requirement and 40 rehabilitation activity days. She was also fined £280 and told to pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.

A restraining order was also imposed, prohibiting her from attending Greenway Gardens in Chippenham.
