A Warminster surgery can no longer carry out blood tests due to a supply issue.

The Avenue Surgery has told patients it needs to cancel any blood test appointments with immediate effect unless samples are needed for those who are seriously unwell.

It’s not yet clear whether other local NHS practices are affected by a country-wide shortage at this stage.

A spokesperson for the surgery said: “There is currently a UK-wide shortage of blood test tubes for the next few months.

“We are unable to carry out routine blood tests with immediate effect until the supply issue has been resolved. We would like to reassure patients that we will only be doing bloods for those who are acutely unwell.

“Do not call us regarding this issue as the situation is completely out of our control. If you currently have a routine blood appointment booked with us, expect a call from us promptly to cancel the appointment.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
