Two people have been arrested after the driver of a vehicle which smashed through a wall and ended up in a garden fled the scene.

A National Police Air Service helicopter team were tasked with trying to locate the suspect following the road traffic collision in Wheeler Avenue late last night.

Police were initially called to the incident shortly before midnight, where they discovered a black BMW had hit a garden wall before coming to rest in a local resident’s front garden.

A man in his 30s was later arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through alcohol and failing to stop at a road traffic collision.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Further information relating to this arrest has not been revealed by Wiltshire Police.

Both men remain in custody at Gablecross Police Station this morning.
