UPDATE: Man dies in Swindon horror crash as car engulfed in flames
Two people have been seriously hurt in a head-on crash outside a Swindon school.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on William Morris Way, in Tadpole Garden Village, at around 1.30pm today (Monday).
The incident, which saw two cars impact head-on, was witnessed by pupils at the Great Western Academy — which directly overlooks the scene.
One of the vehicles caught fire, and had to be extinguished by fire crews.
The drivers of both cars, a man and a woman, sustained serious injuries. Further updates on the conditions of the casualties can be expected later.
A full-scale forensic collision investigation is underway — with the road likely to remain closed until the early hours of tomorrow (Tuesday, 3 June).
Road closures are in place in both directions between Blunsdon Hill and Eastlake.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Please be aware that William Morris Way near Great Western Academy is currently blocked in both directions following a serious collision between two vehicles.
“The road is likely to be closed for several hours, including through school pick up time.
“Please allow extra time for journeys and find alternate routes.”
