A teenager was stabbed during a knife attck in a North Swindon play park this evening.

Police were called to the scene in the basketball court off Gilman Close in St Andrews Ridge at around 6.30pm following a male, thought to be 17-years-old, suffering a puncture wound to the arm.

A large group of people were involved in the incident, with mention of at least three knives — including a machete.

A police dog unit was in search of weapons in the area between Gilman Close and Highdown Way – where the casualty was treated by the ambulance service – at 7.30pm.

Talking to Wiltshire 999s at the scene, Detective Constable Farmley of Swindon CID appeals to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact him by calling 101 immediately.

A crime scene cordon was in place around the play park for an hour but was later removed.

The casualty was taken to Great Western Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Sergeant Catherine Price, from Swindon CID, said: “Our enquiries are at a very early stage but we believe the victim was assaulted in the nearby play area in Wallis Drive.

“People living in the area are likely to see an increased police presence throughout the evening while we continue our investigation and we would urge any witnesses or anyone with information to call us.”
