A busy Swindon route is closed after a crash caused a major gas leak.

Kingshill Road was closed in both directions following the incident at around 1pm this afternoon (Tuesday, 11 October).

Two vehicles, a silver Skoda and a blue Mazda, we’re involved in a collision. The Mazda was parked at the roadside at the time.

The impact caused a major gas leak, which has seen the road closed in both directions and gas engineers tasked to the scene.

The area has been cordoned off for safety as the smell of gas is notable.

It’s not clear how long the route will be blocked for, but gas engineers are currently (2pm) digging up the road to carry out urgent works.

Nobody’s believed to have been seriously hurt in the crash.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A number of homes have been evacuated as a precaution and a 25-metre cordon has been put in place.

“The fire service and the gas board are currently at the scene.

“The road will be closed for some time.

“Drivers are being asked to seek alternative routes as there is likely to be disruption in the area.”
