Rumours of a double stabbing in Devizes are false, Wiltshire Police says.

Emergency services were called to The Green at around 7.30pm last night (21 February).

However, they were not responding to a double stabbing – a rumour which has spread across the town like wildfire following the incident.

999 crews were actually attending a medical incident, with no criminal element.

A woman was rushed to hospital by South Western Ambulance Service, and police were in attendance to support medics at the scene.

The rumour mill was busy following last night’s blue light presence, with reports on social media suggesting two people had been stabbed. Others claimed one person was fatally stabbed.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to a medical incident on The Green, Devizes, last night (21/02) at approximately 7.30pm.

“We attended along with the ambulance service and a woman was taken to hospital.”

The force confirmed that the incident was not a stabbing.
