Pools of blood next to an abandoned bicycle have sparked a police probe in Bath.

Officers were called to the junction of The Weal and Trafalgar Road, Weston, at around 7.30am on Monday morning (2 June).

A member of the public first saw the abandoned blue bicycle at around 5.30am, but only called the police later – when they noticed there was blood with it.

Avon and Somerset Police said that enquiries were made with both the ambulance service and nearby Royal United Hospital, but no casualty was located.

Concerned about the amount of blood lost, officers launched an urgent investigation in a bid to locate the person and get them treatment.

“Enquiries, including house-to house, continue [on Tuesday 3 June]”, a spokesperson for the force said.

They added: “If you have any information about what happened, please call 101 and give log number 159 of 2 June.

“Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously by calling 0800 555 111, or online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information.”
