Murder squad hunt killers as man knifed to death in Swindon field named locally

A 33-year-old man knifed to death in a field in Swindon has been named locally.

Murder squad detectives have been tasked with bringing the local victim’s killers to justice following the brutal attack in The Venny, between Cricklade Road and Pinehurst Road, yesterday afternoon (10 October).

Passersby, soon after supported by police officers, paramedics and the Great Western Air Ambulance critical care team tried to save local man Lee Turner’s life.

He was pronounced dead at the scene with police immediately cordoning off the large green space and launching a murder probe.

On social media, tributes have been flowing in.

“RIP Lee Turner another life took by a knife 33 f**king years old whole life ahead of him taken”, Leyton McGowan wrote.

Cara-lee Bond said: “RIP Lee Turner you were a huge part of my life at one point and you will be so missed by so many! Rest easy mate”.

Sarah Jayne Best commented: “What’s this world coming to!! R.i.p Lee Turner you were such a nice person, my thought are with your family”.

Police superintendent Phil Staynings told the community that additional patrols would be in the area as the force continues to investigate the fatal stabbing.

“This is a tragic incident and our initial thoughts are with the victim’s friends and family at this awful time”, he said.

Continuing: “I want to reassure everyone living in the local area that we are treating this as a major investigation and Wiltshire Police are working tirelessly and at pace to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

“Members of the public will see additional patrols in the area and if you have any concerns or information, don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.

“I’d also like to take the opportunity to send out a clear message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated by Wiltshire Police. Today’s events highlight the catastrophic consequences these actions can have on individuals, families and the wider community”.

Wiltshire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team is asking for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area, including May Close, at the time of the incident to please contact them.
