Police have cordoned off part of Salisbury city centre after a dog fell into the river.

Emergency services were spotted at the scene in Fisherton Street at 12pm today (30 January).

An elderly dog – believed to be a Jack Russell – reportedly fell into the river and passed away.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have a number of appliances in attendance, with firefighters spotted peering over the wall into the River Avon.

Police officers have taped off part of The Maltings to pedestrians and are guarding the area.
