Police remain at the scene of a cannabis factory in Melksham this afternoon (Wednesday).

Emergency services have been at The Unicorn, an abandoned restaurant on Bath Road, since around 10pm yesterday (Tuesday) after officers uncovered the grow.

At least three detectives, numerous police officers and a fire crew from Trowbridge were in attendance this afternoon – having remained there for most of the day.

Wiltshire 999s understands from a source that there are fears people – potentially suspects in the illegal operation – may be locked in the attic of the property.

In an earlier statement, Wiltshire Police said it has a cordon in place whilst the electricity board make the scene safe.

A spokesperson said officers were called to the address following a report of a burglary in progress – and that’s when the cannabis set-up was uncovered.

The force refused to confirm the suggestion that people are locked in the attic.
