NATIONAL: A councillor is urging people to empty their inflatable swimming pools at the end of each day after a fox cub was found drowned after an early morning dip with its family.

The photograph was shared by Sarah Madigan on behalf of a Nottinghamshire resident – a young lady – who she says was left feeling ‘horrible’ about the discovery early this week.

It’s understood an adult fox and its cubs were seen using the pool in a garden at around 2am on Tuesday but there was no concern over their ability to exit it.

Ms Madigan said: “I can imagine like me and the lady who asked me to post this to never have even thought about emptying a pool after a day in the garden and watching our children play.

“This lovely young lady heard a mother and cub playing in her kids pool at 2am this morning and went to bed quite happy and content all was well.

“Sadly [she] got up a few hours later to find the cub dead in the same pool.

“This wonderful young lady feels horrible because she didn’t have a pool cover sufficient to stop them going in. This post is just a reminder that if you don’t have a pool cover then please try and empty your pool at the end of the day and we can prevent these deaths.”
