A patient who was sat on a psychiatric hospital roof for more than 24 hours has jumped off – but managed to flee from police and climb onto residential house.
Police have cordoned off Reeves Road, located more than 500 metres from Green Lane Hospital, as they continue to negotiate with the man this morning (Thursday).
The force said that the man, aged in his 20s, “jumped off the roof of a building at the hospital and into a neighbouring field, and then made his way into a local housing estate”.
They added that “he has climbed onto the roof of a residential house”.
A spokesperson said that the “situation is being managed”, and local residents are able to come and go from their properties in the street.
The development happened at shortly after 5am this morning, with officers failing to detain the man when he came down from the hospital roof.
Local residents have reported armed police on scene, along with the drone unit.

“Please be aware that we have cordoned off Reeves Road, Devizes, following a development in the Green Lane Hospital incident.
“Shortly after 5am this morning (12/06), the man, aged in his 20s, jumped off the roof of a building at the hospital and into a neighbouring field, and then made his way into a local housing estate, where he has climbed onto the roof of a residential house.
“We have set up a cordon on the street and are continuing to negotiate with the man.
“We appreciate this development will be concerning for local residents. Please be assured that the situation is being managed and residents are able to come and go from their properties.
