One person is dead and nine others have been injured in a horror crash on the M4.
Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the westbound carriageway in Wiltshire at around 11.30pm last night (22 June).
The incident, between junctions 16 and 17, involved a Toyota Corolla with seven occupants and a Volkswagen Tiguan with three occupants.
A woman, aged in her 40s, from the Toyota sustained significant injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another woman in the Toyota – aged in her 50s – was seriously injured, along with five over people who sustained minor injuries.
Three people travelling in the Volkswagen sustained minor injuries.
Police want to trace the driver of a white car, which may have been involved – but left the scene.
A full-scale forensic collision investigation is underway, and is expected to take most of today (Monday) to complete.
National Highways have erected green screens around the wrecked vehicles as specially trained officers carry out their work. The eastbound carriageway remains open.
“Our Serious Collision Team are at the scene carrying out an investigation into what happened, and the motorway is likely to be closed westbound for most of the day”, a police spokesperson said.
Adding: “We appreciate this will cause disruption for a large number of people and thank you for your patience.
“We have received reports that a white vehicle may have been involved and left the scene.
“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dashcam footage are asked to contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597, quoting log number 399.
