Negotiators have been called in amid an armed police incident in Melksham.

Firearms officers are thought to have arrived in Foundry Close, the housing estate behind McDonald’s, at around 1pm today (Friday) after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person.

The road has been closed near Turners Court and some residents are not being able to return home. Residents who were at home before the incident unfolded have been told to stay indoors.

It’s understood specialist negociators have been called in to speak to a woman within a house.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently in attendance at an address in Foundry Close Melksham, following concerns for the welfare of a person at the property.

“We are advising members of the public to avoid the area while trained officers provide support during this ongoing situation.”
