A murder investigation is underway following the death of a newborn baby.

Three people have been arrested after the five-week-old died after they were admitted to Salisbury District Hospital on 1 September.

Despite the efforts of doctors, the baby didn’t survive – and was pronounced dead on 9 September.

An 18-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody for questioning.

The suspects are also being held on suspicion of allowing or causing [a child to suffer] significant harm.

This morning (Tuesday, 1 November), a crime scene is in place at an address in Tournament Road, Salisbury, as police investigate the suspicious death.

The house is thought to be home to all three suspects in custody for the suspected killing.

Crime scene investigators and two dog units are in attendance – as they work to locate and recover any potential evidence relating to the suspected crime.

It’s understood that police carried out some investigation work at the same address immediately following the baby’s admission to hospital last month.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We’ve arrested three people following the death of a five week old baby from the Salisbury area.

“The child was admitted to Salisbury District Hospital on September 1 but sadly died on September 9.

“As a result of our extensive enquiries, we have today (November 1) arrested an 18-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman in relation to the investigation.

“Our enquiries continue.”
