The mayor of Bradford on Avon has spoken out after a ‘heartbreaking’ incident saw a man die in the river last Friday afternoon (27 June).
Jack Vittles said the tragedy was an “incredibly sad moment for our town” and thanked the emergency service for their efforts.
It comes after a young man drowned in the River Avon at Barton Farm Country Park – where he had been jumping in with friends.
After he disappeared int he water, a major search and rescue operation was launched. Despite the efforts of 999 crews, he was located deceased.
Mayor, Councillor Vittles said: “On behalf of all our town councillors, Bradford on Avon Town Council and the entire Bradford community, I want to express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the young man who tragically lost his life in the River Avon on Friday.
“This is an incredibly sad moment for our town, and our thoughts are with all those affected by the heartbreaking incident.
“I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the emergency services and rescue teams across the region who responded to this incident.”
