A man’s claim about being stabbed in Chippenham town centre are believe to be false.
In a post on Facebook, the local resident – who we are not naming – announced that he had been knifed multiple times in an attack on Wednesday (4 June).
He said that he was in hospital “waiting on a specialist” due to sustaining a “deep” slash wound to his neck – which was “millimetres away from an artery”.
In photos of his injuries obtained by Wiltshire 999s, there appears to be six slice wounds on his neck – all adjacent to one another. One is larger and more open than the others.
However, there is no evidence of stab wounds to his back and chest – which the man described as “superficial”.
It’s believed the injuries to the man’s neck were self-inflicted, and not the result of a violent assault in Chippenham town centre – claims which caused concern in the community.
It’s understood the man was suffering a mental health episode at the time.
Wiltshire Police were approached for a statement on the purported stabbing, but were unable to find a log for the incident.
