A man and woman have been arrested following an incident in Swindon town centre.

Police officers responded to several 999 calls reporting a disorder in the Railway Village, off Faringdon Road, at around 4.20pm this afternoon (Monday, 13 June).

Concerned locals phoned the incident when they heard aggressive shouting and saw a man throw a vodka bottle at a house in Emlyn Square – narrowly missing a window.

Officers sped into the area within just two minutes of the 999 calls, detaining the pair approximately 150 metres away – off Church Place.

Both suspects reluctantly let go of a three-litre bottle of cider, but not before half of it was spilt on the floor by a police officer trying to effect an arrest.

At least five police officers and several police community support officers were in attendance.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police confirmed they were called to a disorder in Emlyn Square.

The force said a 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

They were transported to Gablecross custody, where they remain at present.
