A man and woman have been arrested after a bus driver was attacked in Wiltshire.

Emergency services were called to a bus stop in High Street, Durrington, at around 10.15pm on 22 March, where an X4 Salisbury Reds service stopped to collect passengers.

The driver, in his 40s, was assaulted before being flown to Southampton Hospital by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with a head injury.

The man’s injuries weren’t as serious as first thought, but two people – a man and a woman – have been arrested by officers investigating the incident.

The man, aged in his 50s from Devizes, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of criminal damage, racially/religiously aggravated harassment and grievous bodily harm with intent.

The woman, in her 40s from Melksham, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.

Both suspects have been released under investigation and Wiltshire Police is appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

A spokesperson said: “If you were on the bus at the time, or if you were in the area and witnessed the incident we’d like to hear from you.

“Please call 101 and quote crime reference number 54220029659. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
