A man has been stabbed in the head and back during a serious incident near the Magic Roundabout in Swindon, according to an eyewitness.

Fleming Way was closed in both directions by police officers, near the Esso petrol station, at around 10.30am this morning, Monday 9 October.

One eyewitness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “I was driving past when it happened. A man was face down on the floor, losing a lot of blood.

“People were shouting that he has been stabbed as firefighters ran to the scene with a first aid kit in hand. There was blood everywhere.”

Ten police units and detectives from Swindon CID attended the scene.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at approximately 10.25am today to a serious assault near the Esso garage in Fleming Way.

“One man has been assaulted and sustained a head and back injury.

“A cordon is currently in place at the scene and officers are carrying out enquiries.

“We’d encourage anyone who witnessed the incident, which is believed to have taken place on the garage forecourt, to call 101 immediately.”

Wiltshire Police has not yet confirmed that the man was stabbed.

Fleming Way has since reopened in both directions.
