A man was killed in a head-on crash on the A30 – but three others escaped any injuries.

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, attended the serious smash in the Pitton area at around 11.30am on Thursday (15 September).

Wiltshire Police confirmed that a BMW and a Mercedes travelling in opposite directions were involved in a collision near the junction with Whiteway.

The driver of the BMW sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital where he later died.

Two passengers in the car escaped any injuries, as did the driver of the Mercedes.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage, and were likely written off as a result.

A force spokesperson said. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“We believe a number of drivers may have witnessed the collision who have not yet spoken to police.

“We would like to speak to these people and also ascertain if they have dash cam footage which could help.

“Any witnesses to the collision should call 101 and quote log number 113 of September 15.”
