A man has been rushed to hospital after being rescued from a Trowbridge car park.

Around two dozen emergency vehicles were witnessed attending St Stephen’s Place multi-storey car park at around 1pm on Sunday afternoon (16 June).

A man was seen to be on the edge of the building and in distress – sparking a significant response from 999 crews in a bid to save his life.

Wiltshire Police said the scene was “complex”, and the man was suffering a mental health crisis.

Two specialist Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) ambulance crews were at the incident alongside numerous fire crews – including a technical rescue unit from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

An aerial ladder platform appliance from Swindon Fire Station was also on scene.

After around one hour, the man was bought to safety.

South Western Ambulance Service said it took the patient to Southmead Hospital, which is a Major Trauma Centre, for treatment.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “This was a complex scene and required the involvement of mental health professionals, colleagues from the Fire Service and Ambulance Service to ensure that the person was brought to safety.

“He is now receiving appropriate care.”
