A man was violently assaulted during an attack in Chippenham, police say.

The incident happened near The Flying Monk in the High Street at around 7.20pm on 12 May.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was approached by three men and one woman – who told him to empty his pockets.

When the man refused to do so, he was struck to the face with a glass bottle before being punched repeatedly to the head.

The group also used the man’s own motorcycle helmet to assault him further.

A member of the public gave first aid at the scene before the victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing and officers are obtaining CCTV from the local area as part of their investigation.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident who may be able to assist with our enquiries.

“If you can help, call 101 and quote crime reference number 54230049935. Alternatively, call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
