A man collapsed during his arrest for assaulting a police officer with a fire extinguisher in Chippenham this morning (Friday).
The force was called to reports of a disorder outside a property in Station Hill at around 11.25am, with three units sent to the incident.
A man, aged in his 30s, appeared to be intoxicated and was throwing fire extinguishers at the door to a flat.
When he was approached by officers, he chucked a fire extinguisher at them.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
As officers attempted to get him into a police vehicle, he collapsed – appearing to fall unconscious in the road.
The suspect, who appeared to have a head injury and blood on his face, was provided first aid and the ambulance service was contacted.
An ambulance crew arrived a short time later, swiftly rousing the man and putting him onto a stretcher. He was taken to hospital for further care.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said that the man “remains in hospital for treatment”.
