A man has sustained serious injuries when he was hit by a car in Trowbridge.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Mortimer Street at around 5pm this evening (4 March).

Critical care medics were scrambled to the incident and Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed near Lamplighters Play Area, in Lamplighters Walk, off County Way.

Witnesses reported seeing a man covered in blood at the roadside, being tended to by paramedics.

Wiltshire Police has confirmed that the casualty, a man in his 30s, was rushed to the Major Trauma Centre at Bristol’s Southmead Hospital.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours for collision investigation work.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police have closed Mortimer Street, in Trowbridge, following a road traffic collision earlier this evening.

“We were called to the collision at around 4.45pm today (04/03) after a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a car.

“A man in his 30s has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious pelvic injuries.

“Officers are currently at the scene and we would ask people to find alternative routes at this time.

“Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to police should call 101, quoting log 243 of today.”
